PUGET SOUND Released their self titled first full length cd a few months back which was greatly received. Moving on from their early reggae punk vibe to a more art punk style like Zounds and Mob. Their “Hansel and Regretal” 7 inch on Rise Above Records completely sold out. They also lived in Leeds for a year and also spent a few months playing gigs in Brazil. puget18@hotmail.com

Long running punk scene stalwarts STRIKNIEN DC have been playing live a bit more lately and have also just issued a Rejected Records discography which houses an amazing 63 tracks! A new album is planned and a possible Striknien Video History containing 4 promo- videos (3 never seen), an un-seen TV documentary about the band, interviews with all contactable ex/members and various gig clips is in the works. THE DUDLEY CORPORATION The Corpo from Dublin, Ireland are pioneers of Mamrock and have played gigs with bands like Rocket from the Crypt, Low and Papa M over their existence. They play sometimes fast, sometimes slow but always sweet romantic rock songs. 2001 saw them release their debut long player, 'The Lonely World of...', which lead to both a US and Icelandic tour. Next on the cards is a split 7" with BORIS from Japan . thecorpo@thumped.com or www.thedudleycorporation.com

The Punk poet known as ANGUS made a rare appearance recently supporting Attila The Stockbroker at The Music Room. He’s the same Angus who was behind Smegma zine. There’s a cassette entitled “Drunken Contemplations” which contains his lyrical waxing on various topics. With titles such as “My First Erection”, “Bus Drivers Pal” and “I Would Have Liked to Have Seen a Dodo”, it’s well worth checking out. Contact: smeggyangus@yahoo.com or www.dojo.ie/angus

THE DENIZENS OF ILK play solid alternative rock songs. Their debut EP “Follow The Red Light” showcased five tracks of rock along the lines of Dinosaur Jr., Nirvana and Idlewild. It also contained the brooding “Hope Is An Anchor”, which is an excellent song. I haven’t seen their name on any gig listings in a while but I’d rest assured the still are on the go. Meanwhile, pick up the ep from the THINGS stall. denizensofilk@hotmail.com or www.denizensofilk.com

BURNINGLOVEJUMPSUIT Infamous for their bizarre demented album artwork and their dance beats with crunchy guitars mix BLJ feature an ex Jackbeast member but sound nothing like that. www.burninglovejumpsuit.com

SKINT are an Oi band from Dublin. They formed in January 1994 and went through many line up changes until the present line up which cemented September 2000. To date they’ve released a 7 inch ep “7 inches of nOIze", two cds "IN THE FIRING LINE" and “THRU THE BOTTOM OF A GLASS", a live CD for Combat Rock’s Alive and Kicking series (which was recorded in The Temple, Dublin) and appeared on numerous compilation including the HELEN OF OI comp L.P, "PUNKS, SKINS AND HERBERTS" and "PUNKS, SKINS AND HERBERTS Vol 2". Touring wise slots supporting THE BUSINESS and The WARRIORS have been completed alongside appearances at the Holidays in the Sun festival. They are currently writing songs for a new CD which at the moment is been given the working title of "The Roll of a Dice". beanoskint@hotmail.com     www.dojo.ie/skint

STOAT hail from parts unknown but are generally based in Dublin. They’ve more hair than a Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington but are certainly on their own patch of musical originality, having once gathered 50 people in a bar to sing the chorus of one of their songs. They’ve a couple of singles knocking about. www.stoatmusic.com

EASPA MEASA have evolved big time since their inception 2 years ago. With members coming and going the one thing that remains constant is change. Now with new guitarist Johnny (ex- Prell) on board EM is a more thoroughbred Kilkenny affair, though based in Dublin. With a self titled and self released album on the way..  expect some serious crusty metal action soon. easpameasa@yahoo.com or www.easpameasa.cjb.net

CLODHOPPERS Formerly and briefly known as the Homewood Boggers, Clodhoppers also made a rare appearance recently supporting Attila The Stockbroker at The Music Room. They play pre historic punk old timey music. jburkie@hotmail.com

THE STEAM PIG are set to release a violent obnoxious 13 track album in early 2003 tentatively entitled “ Badcoddle ”. This album has been culled from sessions recorded between December ‘01 and January ‘02 in Dublin, and mixed late ‘02 in Santa Monica by former Jam Jar Jail chainsaw surgeon Shane “ Let’s nail this puppy “ O’Reilly. The band will return to the studio to record another album later in the year for release in 2003! For further details contact bozxh@hotmail.com or write to PO BOX 7674, Dublin 1, Ireland.
An unofficial website has emerged at www.geocities.com/steampig2002 and contains a sizeable archive of lyrics, photos, biog info and interviews from the past few years.

CONNECT FOUR ORCHESTRA are a post-rock band with electronica touches famed for their 'musical chairs' approach to making music, where each band member switches from drums to guitar to organ. They released the “Chisel to the Hip” album to great acclaim not so long ago. theconnectfourorchestra@hotmail.com or http://homepage.tinet.ie/~connect4orchestra/

PETE THE KILLER started in 2001 some time. Some choice hardcore cuts were hastily written, and the recruitment of sometime roadie for The Steam Pig, and full time oddball, Alan Qaeda ( his real name! ) on vocals and Liam “Yoda“ Mullhall on guitar ( of Sirkillalot fame ), completed by Dave “Styx” Gormley, drumming icon with Dublin legends Stomach completed the line-up, and the quest for hardcore perfection began. a couple of months into rehearsals, Dave decided to leave to concentrate on Stomach. After long and fruitless months of searching, Eoin Fullham was observed playing coherently with Nerdlinger and Scientific Bong - young hardcore punkers from the depths of Roscommon, and was quickly bullied into joining. Summer 2002 saw Pete The Killer playing local gigs around Dublin to enthusiastic crowds eager to hear a new genuine “ Hardcore ‘ band. Then Eoin left and the rest of the boys went into the studio and recorded an album with local Croat Aristocrat Kenny Carmicharl Hemmings guesting on drums. This album will be released on Control records in Mid 2003. Watch out for a live assault when drummer issues are resolved. derrickgodson@lycos.com or write to PO BOX 7674, Dublin 1, Ireland.

THE COLDSPOON CONSPIRACY play a mixed bag of styles, one minute up tempo post rock the next laid back and mellow. They’ve a couple of 7 inches out. Check  for more or email: thecoldspoonconspiracy@hotmail.com

WARLORDS OF PEZ
Mysterious bunch of individuals playing a mix of styles from rock to punk in a more or less pisstake manner. www.warlordsofpez.com will tell you more but not much more!

MOUTHPIECE  features Tommy from Killercrust and play an electic mix of punk style from No Means No to MDC. Email : tommytrousers@yahoo.com  for more.

SIRKILLALOT  play excellently catchy melodic hardcore, fast, loud & in-yer-fucking-face yet still tuneful and emotive, maybe something like a mix of Avail, Hot Water Music & Leatherface. They've a 6-track CD EP from 1999, which is okay, and a 7" which is amazing both on Rise Above and a new album out on Rejected.  You can contact them at: 3 Hillcrest Walk, Lucan, Co. COLDWAR These guys play beardy metal-core. They rock, simple as that, ex-members of Coitus,2000 strong and various other bands. who are you to resist it ? New Album has been released. Contact Ian Lawless, Trinity, Ashford, Co. Wicklow. http://www.hardcore-times.com/coldwar

[The North]  (thanks to ANDREW GRISWOLD)

RUNNIN’ RIOT are a four piece street punk band originating from Belfast, Northern Ireland. The band have been together in various guises since 1997. During this time the band have played numerous gigs around Ireland and throughout the UK with the likes of UK Subs, The Business, Dropkick Murphys, Sham 69, Knuckledust, Bombshell Rocks, Voice Of A Generation, US Bombs, The Cockney Rejects, Skint and Striknien DC. The band also completed a 6 week tour of the USA with Dropkick Murphys in 2000 following the re-release of their debut album "Reclaim The Streets" on TKO/Flat Records, the album having been initially released on Rejected Records in 1998. The 9-track mini-album entitled "Monk's Not Dead" followed, again on Rejected Records.More recently the band teamed up with Germanys Tower Blocks to record a split 7 inch for Rejected/Punk Shit Records. Runnin' Riot have also recorded several tracks for various compilations including a Blitz tribute, a Ruts tribute, an American compilation called "Bite The Bullet" and the TKO Records sampler cd "Punch Drunk II". Contact: http://members.lycos.co.uk/runninriot/ or runnin_riot@hotmail.com

P45 are a three piece melodic punk outfit from the seaside spot of Portstewart, way up North. Influenced heavily by the American pop punk ala Lagwagon, NOFX and Green Day, they’ve been throwing their names and bodies around a bit lately and recently recorded the schoolboy humorously titled “Fits & Tanny” 5 song demo cdr. As with most of these “having a laugh pop punk bands”, you’ll find humour and tomfoolery throughout. If you like a bit of pop/melodic punk, check it out. Contact: P45, c/o 24 Station Rd., Portstewart, Co. Derry, N.Ireland BT55 7DA. P45band@hotmail.com

BEST BEFORE END Base: Holywood This bunch of bastards are probably my favourite NI band right now. They belie their cuddly appearance (head honcho Simsie has been referred to as the ‘Punk Rock Teddybear’ on more than one occasion) to deliver a crushing onslaught of Misfits/Ramones-style punk metal. Hard-hitting drummer Jamie provides the band’s weighty backbone while Simsie and bassist Catface keep things rockin’ upfront. Miss this band at your eternal peril! www.bestbeforeend.tk Contact: bbesimsie@hotmail.com

THE EVANGELISTS Base: Londonderry Crawling out of the Derry/Donegal border area, The Evangelists have established themselves as NI’s weirdest band. Combining a love of punk and hardcore with a fascination for classical music and freeform jazz, they have created a truly unique musical beast. Imagine Frank Zappa guesting with Mr. Bungle while Black Flag throw rocks at their heads and you’re not even close… http://www.theevangelists.tk Contact: theevangelists@hotmail.com

FOOL Base: Belfast Selling themselves as “Belfast’s premier slapstick punk band”, these guys have cornered the market for sub-Vandals fun-punk. They don’t give a fuck about Political Correctness and have built up a huge fanbase in the city for their foul-mouthed punk rock nursery rhymes. With lead Fool Owen acting all normal at Liverpool Uni, the other gimps are keeping themselves busy with side project The F.A.B. Experience. Be afraid, be very afraid…www.foolrock.cjb.net / foolrock@hotmail.com

GAMA BOMB Base: Newry Not strictly ‘punk’ but they kick ass so fucking sue me! These ‘80s throwbacks play blistering thrash metal the way Anthrax, Exodus and Nuclear Assault used to before they turned shit/split up. They even have some 10-second, S.O.D.-style thrashcore songs. Guitarists Luke & Kevy have also been known to play in The Dangerfields on occasion, more fool them. www.gamabomb.tk Contact: lukegraham@hotmail.com

GIRL WETS PANTS Base: Belfast A supergroup in the truest sense of the word, GWP feature the drummer from Rodan, four (count ‘em!) ex/current Dangerfields and a girl singer with the harshest scream this side of Blind Marky Felchtone. These cretins have become firm fan favourites on the Belfast scene for their edgy, no frills punk rock. Their Shonen Knife meets The Queers pop perfection is balanced against Claire’s dynamic vocal attack to create a truly awesome band. Drop the ska song though, kids! Contact: less_than_aaron@hotmail.com

LOS CABRAS Base: Belfast The ‘black shirt white tie’ get-up would have you write these guys off as Hives wannabes but there is much more to them than that. Somewhat akin to the Murder City Devils or an edgier Rocket From The Crypt, Los Cabras have made their mark hard since forming in late 2001. They’re big with the indie kids and have plenty of punk kudos thanks to the members’ former bands (The Dagda, Split Red and – yes – The Dangerfields!). Watch them burn! Contact: vivaloscabras@hotmail.com

NO HERO Base: Belfast With an average age of 17, No Hero are often dismissed as a crap ‘kiddie punk’ band. One listen to their gritty pop punk/indie blows that theory right out of the water. Equal parts REM and Screeching Weasel, No Hero are by far the best of the many young bands streaming out of the healthy-as-fuck Giros scene. Their stage presence could do with a bit of work but the songs are there and that’s the main thing ain’t it? www.nohero.4t.com Contact: nohero_punk@hotmail.com

NO LESS MY LIFE Base: Larne Quickly evolving from their Green Day-covering roots into the punchy punk rock machine of today, NLML have made a lot of friends fast. Almost as hard-working as their spiritual godfathers The Dangerfields, these fuckers would sell their grannies for a gig! Luckily, the quality of their songs more than matches their prolific workrate. Website: www.nolessmylife.tk Contact: jamie_hagan@hotmail.com

TORINO Base: Portadown Featuring two ex-members of mid-‘90s pop punk heroes Joyrider, much was predicted for these Buckfast-happy boys from Portadown. That they have failed to meet expectations has more to do with their chronic laziness than the quality of their punky pop metal! Coming on like ‘Troublegum’-era Therapy? in a fistfight with the Misfits, this lot never fail to impress on their rare live outings. www.geocities.com/torinomusic Contact: torinomusic@yahoo.com

THE DAGDA play powerful hardcore somewhat similar to Tragedy in ways.. They contain ex-members of Jobbycrust, easpa measa and my name is satan and are probably one of the best irish hardcore bands i've ever heard. They have an album "threefold" out on Control/Enslaved Contact http://members.tripod.co.uk/the_dagda/

THE DANGERFIELDS Play very simplistic, fun, rock n roll style punk music. They've had more members than any other band I can think of and generally you dont see the same line up twice. Contact http://dive.to/thedangerfields/

[WICKLOW]

MO7’S, from Wicklow, play wholesome punk rock with rockabilly and 50's influence. They include ex-members of legendary Irish punk bands Striknien DC and Handicap Allowance. The band are a 3-piece with Bo Deadly on guitar, Chuck Buried on bass and vocals and Bloody Holly on drums. These mishaps were conceived in the mid 70s, but being too hideous to be seen in public, their parents dragged them down the back yard in a sack. After Bloody Holly's father decided he was too tired to dig a hole to bury these abortion bucket cowboys, he locked them up in his coal shed the week after he had gas central heating installed, where they were forgotten. Kicking a hole in the wall of the coal shed, they found themselves in a record shop and reared themselves on an imbalanced diet of Dead Kennedys, The Damned, Burt Weedon, Slayer, The Rev. Horton Heat, Motorhead, Meteors, Misfits and the like. To date they have released a cdr demo, a 2 track split cdr with fellow county men Blood Red Dolls and had a track featured on the InTOXICated compilation. You can regularly catch these bastards playing their demented style of gas chamber, pipe rattling hell-punkabilly in the Temple, Dublin. www.mo7s.freeservers.com/

BLOOD RED DOLLS hail from Wicklow were they formed in spring 2000. They play a dark, humourous, intense, slightly odd and sometimes aggressive brand of punk rock drawing comparisons to AFI and Misfits. They’ve recently recorded a 12track album which should see the light of day sometime soon but theres also a demo knocking around, a 2 track split cdr with MO7’S and they are also feature on the InTOXICated compilation cd. bloodreddolls@hotmail.com or www.geocities.com/bloodreddolls/home.html

FOOT IN MOUTH come from the same place as Kid Blunt. In fact some of the members are also members of Kid Blunt. The band consists of Neddy "Goozer" Whitfield on vocals who he co-formed the group with Luke, who plays guitar. Then the boys got Hippy from down the road to play bass. Eoin and Turlough from Kid Blunt then joined on drums and saxaphone respectively. They’re a ska band, influenced by The Specials and The Beat. Live they’re very entertaining and tight. Recordings are on the horizon too. Contact: Ed, 343 Meadowbrook, Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow or edjagit@hotmail.com  www.goozer.com

KID BLUNT formed in Kilcoole, North Wicklow and quickly set about writing some excellent tunes inspired by bands on the Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph labels. All the good bands from those labels of course, like Avail, Nofx and Hot Water Music to name but a few that you can hear in their sound. For a bunch of young fellas they are surprisingly mature musically and lyrically. They’re tight as fuck live too and have their shit together. 2002 saw them release the “82” mcd on their friends Mad Dog La Belle imprint, and it garnished plenty of healthy positive reviews both here in Ireland and in the UK. The band recently recorded three new tracks which may feature on a release soon. Members of Kid Blunt can also be found rockin’ out in Scared Shitless and Foot in Mouth. See UFC no. 6 for a complete interview with these guys. The “82” mcd is is available for 7 euro ppd from : Turlough Fortune, Wicklow, Ireland or Email: stephenkidblunt@hotmail.com  or www.goozer.com

NO COMPLIANCE from Kilcoole play melodic punk with hardcore influences and have been around since 2000. They’re almost like the young understudies of Kid Blunt and a split 7" with them seems imminent.  Email : edjagit@hotmail.com  www.goozer.com

SCARED SHITLESS are a bunch of Wicklow misfits vomiting forward thrashy hardcore. Theres plans a foot for a split 7", with Scientific Bong. Email: edjagit@hotmail.com for more.

[GALWAY]

BY KOLLIN FUKTIFINO
DIATRIBE are a band of be-dread locked demons who are based in Galway. Formed a little under a year ago, they’ve just released their debut demo, “Fights The Weakness”. Their sound has been described as “Satan’s house band fronted by a death-metal scatman”. Contact diatribexombie666@yahoo.com

ONEMANDOWN have been together forever and have been fucking shit up for twice as long. Last year they released their eponymously titled debut CD and finally cemented their line up with the addition of ex-Shallow Season man Denis Lymar. They recently supported Raging Speedhorn in Limerick and their potent mix of melodic hardcore/metal with Will Haven-esque  vocals blew the ‘Horn off the stage…

Another fine ass metal band from ‘round these parts is FULCRUM. Taking their queue from the mid-nineties metal scene, the band have been growing and honing their sound over the past few months. Could have something to do with that new drummer. On the recording front, something should be cooking real soon…

Stepping in to their second year on planet earth are CUB SCOUT DISCO. Their noise has been described as Refused, Black Flag, Smashing Pumpkins and half a pound of wallet chains in a liquidiser. Contact Greym @ 087 7364491…

Fucking Galway music from a horrible angle are DIPHTHERIA and GOLGOTHA. Both bands deal in the blackest of metal and contact info can be gotten from the New Noise Collective (See below)…

Two bands not from Galway  are SHERMAN M4 and THE DOGBOY CONSPIRACY. Sherman M4 are Castlebar’s premier metal band. Think Sepultura with Grizzley Adams singing. They’ve just brought out their debut demo and they’ve got a website at www.shermanm4.com

FUKTIFINO will have an ep out very soon…email the band for more info or check www.fuktifino.zzn.com

The Dogboy Conspiracy are from Ballina and are camped somewhere between Dischord and stoner territory. Ah fuck, they sound a helluva lot better than some wannabe journalist cunt could describe them and they’re currently putting the finishing touches to their new demo. Contact: foreveraftermath@yahoo.com

NEW NOISE COLLECTIVE are a bunch of friends who got together to put on original and independent shows in Galway. They’ve got a website (www.way.to/newnoise) and an e-mail (fuktifino@yahoo.com).

[Limerick] (by Trevor Meehan)

22 are a fuckin crazy trio, whose drum-machine irreverence and bizarre antics have earned them a favourable reputation in Limerick since their incarnation in 1999 and the release of the “Abuse of Art” homemade demo. Always up for some costume donning for the live show (see plastic riot cop helmets, dressing gowns, black bin liners and horror movie memorabilia), you’d never know what to expect from these escapees of St. Josephs mental hospital. Peddling their smut through walls of noise akin to Big Black fuckin Nirvana, the full length cd “Comrade Muzik” (released 2001 and available for 7 euro post paid from the address below) went onto show what kind of fucked up mind shenanigans these mad scientists were willing to play, by lobbing in some tripped out relaxed numbers to stem the blows of the jackhammer to the head rock outs. Currently off their collective tits working on a new full length cd.  Contact: 22 HQ, c/o Martin Keary, 69 Monaleen Heights, Castletroy, Limerick. Email: Barry@df-21.net http://www.22band.cjb.net/ or http://www.iol.ie/~wbrien/.............Melodic pop punkers

BARBERSKUM have been pretty quiet of late due to losing their drummer. Still, an ep entitled “Crock O’ Shite” is due on their own Skumbag Rekords. Contact: barberskum@iolfree.ie for more or visit: www.geocities.com/barberskum2000.

Lately a lot of people down Limerick way have been raving on about THE RIFFS. I’ve yet to hear them as I write this but theres a demo that you can get by emailing : webmaster@theriffs.tk and check www.theriffs.tk for more.

ATROPHY are inspired by the likes of early Soundgarden, Nirvana, Helmet, Queens of the Stone Age and System of a Down. www.geocities.com/bandatrophy or gharhoud@hotmail.com.

Are you missing Tooth? Then check out THE KYBOSHI who carry on the legacy. A young three piece who have come on in leaps and bounds under the guidance of ex-Tooth man himself Mark O’Connor. Theres a demo knocking around somewhere. Check www.thekyboshi.com for more.

For a bit of death metal goodness try DISCORD (http://theaffliction.cjb.net) or THE SWARM (www.theswarm.tk).

THE AMC continues to grow in strength, still running gigs for all manner of genres and musical styles. Hardly a week goes by that they don’t have a gig on. Check out their website at www.theamc.net and more importantly get your arse down to a show! JanefromtheAMC@hotmail.com or righteousharmony@hotmail.com.
